About Us

We started Academy Academy because we got tired of watching coding bootcamps treat students like assembly line products. You come in, get lectured at, spit out a portfolio project, and leave hoping something sticks. That's not us. We're here in Faro building something different — a place where you actually learn to code, not just memorize syntax. Our instructors are working developers who remember what it's like to be confused. They teach the messy, real parts of programming that matter in actual jobs. That's the whole point.

Over time, we’ve built a reputation for reliability, quality, and clear communication. We treat each project as a partnership and aim for outcomes that last.

Our Core Values

The principles that guide everything we do

Honesty Over Hype

We tell you what coding actually involves. It's creative and frustrating and rewarding. We don't pretend it's easy or make false promises about job placement rates.

Learn By Building

Theory matters, but you remember what you build. Every week you're making something real that you can show employers, not just completing exercises.

People First

We're small enough to know your name and your struggles. Your success is our success. And we mean that without being cheesy about it.

Diversity In Code

Tech's too homogeneous. We actively recruit people from different backgrounds because different perspectives make better developers.

Our Story

Academy Academy started in 2019 when three of us quit our developer jobs and asked one question: why's it so hard to teach coding well? We rented a small space in central Faro and took 12 students that first cohort. Honestly, we fumbled through it. But our students learned. They got jobs. They came back and told us what worked and what didn't. We've been refining our approach ever since — no fancy marketing, just results. We've trained 247 developers over five years. Some work at startups. Some freelance. Some went back to school with actual skills this time.

The people behind Academy Academy

Sofia Rocha

Sofia Rocha

Founder & Lead Instructor

Sofia spent 8 years building backend systems at European startups before opening Academy Academy. She teaches Python and teaches it well because she still codes professionally on weekends.

Miguel Santos

Miguel Santos

Frontend Instructor

Miguel's obsessed with making interfaces that actually work for real people. He brings 11 years of product design and development to every class. Students say his code reviews hurt at first, then make sense.

Ana Pereira

Ana Pereira

Career Coach & Admissions

Ana worked recruiting for tech companies before joining us. She helps students talk about their work without overselling it, which is harder than it sounds. She's also brutally honest about the job market.

We’re a team that values ownership, clarity, and growth. We celebrate wins, learn fast, and keep client outcomes at the center.
